Opera San José offers a variety of opera experiences designed for students
from kindergarten through college. During the 2008 - 2009 season, two
new programs will be offered:
Opera in a Box and Vocal Masterclass.
Opera
in a Box:
Combining the best elements of our What is Opera? and
One-Act Opera assembly programs, Opera in a Box is a
modernized approach to introducing opera to K-8 students. With the help of a
trunk filled with costumes, four resident artists and a pianist will dispel
all the pre-conceived notions that seem to make opera so foreign to today's
IPOD generation. From Rossini's The Barber of Seville to Bizet's
Carmen, OSJ's talented singers will present an immensely entertaining
lesson on the art form, with a little Hannah Montana thrown in for good
measure. Lasting approximately 35 minutes, Opera in a Box is $350 for
one assembly, or $500 for two, back-to-back performances. To reserve your
school's performance, call Outreach Coordinator
Lettie Smith at (408) 437-4462 or
fill out an on-line booking form.
Vocal
Masterclass:
Perfect for middle school through high-school choral and musical theatre
students, a resident artist will present a masterclass focusing on healthy
vocal technique, breathing fundamentals and principles of good diction. For
musical theatre and drama students, the presentation can be tailored to also
address the topics of role preparation, stage movement and character
development. Reasonably priced at $250 for a 45-minute presentation,
Vocal Masterclass can be booked
on-line or by calling Outreach Coordinator
Lettie Smith at (408) 437-4462.
The company also
offers free
Mainstage
Student Matinees and Final Evening Dress Rehearsals for each of
our mainstage productions which take place at the California Theatre in
downtown San Jose.
